 Streptocarpus

Streptocarpus ("twisted fruit" from Greek στρεπτός (streptos) "twisted" and καρπός (karpos) "fruit")is an Afrotropical genus of flowering plants in the family Gesneriaceae. The genus is native to Afromontane biotopes from central, eastern and southern Africa, including Madagascar and the Comoro Islands.The flowers are five-petalled, salverform tubes, almost orchid-like in appearance, and hover or arch over the plant, while the pointed, elongate fruit is of a helical form similar to that of the "tusk" of a narwhal. In the wild, species can be found growing on shaded rocky hillsides or cliffs, on the ground, in rock crevices, and almost anywhere the seed can germinate and grow. For the home, there are now many hybrids of various colours and forms available.

ม่วงศรีสังวาลย์

 Streptocarpus orientalis หรือชื่อเดิม (Didymocarpus orientalis) 

เป็นไม้ล้มลุกขนาดเล็กในวงศ์ชาฤาษี (Gesneriaceae) มีถิ่นกำเนิดในทวีปเอเชีย มักพบขึ้นตามซอกหินหรือหน้าผาหินปูนที่ชื้นในป่าดิบแล้ง

ลักษณะวิสัยเป็นไม้ล้มลุกอายุหลายปี อิงอาศัยบนก้อนหิน กิ่งอ่อนและยอดอ่อนมีขนนุ่มสีขาวนวล

ประปรายถึงหนาแน่น ใบเดี่ยว เรียงตรงข้ามสลับตั้งฉาก รูปเกือบกลม รูปขอบขนาน หรือรูปขอบขนานแกม รูปรี แผ่นใบบางคล้ายกระดาษ ช่อดอกแบบช่อกระจุกเชิงซ้อนประกอบ ออกตามซอกใบและใกล้ปลายยอด กลีบเลี้ยงสีเขียว โคนกลีบเชื่อมติดกันเป็นหลอดสั้น ๆ ปลายแยกเป็น 5 แฉก กลีบดอกสีม่วงหรือชมพู รูปแตร โคนเชื่อมติดกันเป็นหลอด ปลายแยกเป็น 5 แฉก เกสรเพศผู้มี 2 อัน ผลแบบผลแห้งแตก

Two new species of Oreocharis(Gesneriaceae) from Fan Si Pan, the highest mountain in Vietnam

Abstract

Two new species of Oreocharis Benth. from Fan Si Pan, the highest mountain in Vietnam (Sa Pa) are described and illustrated. Oreocharis grandiflora W.H.Chen, Q.H.Nguyen & Y.M.Shui, is similar to O. flavida Merr. from Hainan province, China, but differs mainly by its larger and infundibuliform corolla, stamens adnate to the base of the corolla tube and stamens coherent in two pairs. The second, Oreocharis longituba W.H.Chen, Q.H.Nguyen & Y.M.Shui, is similar to O. hirsuta Barnett, endemic to northern Thailand, but mainly differs in its pubescence, coherent stamens and glabrous filaments.

Oreocharis grandiflora

Oreocharis hirsuta is a rare, perennial plant belonging to the Gesneriaceae (African violet) family. It is an endemic species of northern Thailand, highly valued by botanists for its botanical significance. 

Key Characteristics & Ecology

• Habitat: This plant typically grows as a stemless, herbaceous perennial with leaves crowded at the base of a short rootstock. 
• Appearance: It features elliptic or ovate, grayish-green leaves that are covered in tawny, multicellular hirsute hairs. It produces yellow, tubular or funnel-shaped flowers.
• Distinguishing Features: Unlike similar related species in the region, O. hirsuta has obtuse-to-rounded leaf bases, hirsute hairs, subequal corolla lips, and anthers that are free rather than coherent. 
• Similar Relatives: It shares morphological similarities with other Southeast Asian and Chinese species like O. aurea and O. tsaii, and has related species in Vietnam (such as O. longituba).
