Phrae (Thai: แพร่, pronounced [pʰrɛ̂ː]; Northern Thai:  ᨻᩯᩖ᩵, pronounced [pɛ̂ː]) is one of Thailand's seventy-six Provinces (changwat) and lies in upper northern Thailand. Neighboring provinces are (clockwise from north) Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, and Lampang.

Phrae was constructed during the Sukhothai period. One of the earliest temples to be constructed in Phrae was Wat Phra That Cho Hae around 1336-1338 during the Sukhothai period. During the 16th century, the town served as an outpost controlled by the Kingdom of Lan Na.

The town was first established in 1371. During the late 19th century, Phrae served as a major centre for the teak trade, with numerous foreign companies operating around the town. Before centralisation reforms by King Chulalongkorn were untertakened, Phrae served as the capital of the Kingdom of Phrae and the seat of the royal family of Phrae. In 1902, the town served as the center for the Shan-led Ngiao rebellion, which aimed to overthrow Central Thai rule over Lan Na before being crushed. Central Thai authority over Phrae was reestablished on 16 August 1902.

Phrae is in the valley of the Yom River. The Phi Pan Nam Range runs across the province from north to south in the west. The Phlueng Range is in the east. The total forest area is 4,204 km²(1,623 sq mi) or 64.8 percent of provincial area.

There are four national parks, of which three in region 13 (Phrae) and Lam Nam Nan in region 11 (Phitsanulok), they are the protected areas in Phrae province.(Visitors in fiscal year 2024)

Wildlife sanctuaries

There are two wildlife sanctuaries in region 13 (Phrae) and they are the protected areas in Phrae province.

Lam Nam Nan Fang Khwa Wildlife Sanctuary	235 km2(91 sq mi)
Doi Luang Wildlife Sanctuary	97 km2(37 sq mi)

Several species of the Gesneriaceae plant family are found in Phrae Province, Northern Thailand, notably including Microchirita suddeei and Middletonia species.

Paraboea reticulata Barnett
Microchirita suddeei: สดุดีดาวFirst discovered and recorded in dry evergreen limestone forests at Tham Pha Nang Khoi in the Rong Kwang District of Phrae, growing as a fleshy herb up to 40 cm tall. 
Species recorded: Middletonia reticulata has been documented in Phrae Province (specifically in Song district, Mae Yom National Park along the Yom River at an elevation of 225 meters).

The province is divided into eight districts (amphoes). These are further divided into 78 subdistricts (tambons) and 645 villages (mubans).

Local government

As of 26 November 2019 there are:^[14] one Phrae Provincial Administration Organisation (ongkan borihan suan changwat) and 26 municipal (thesaban) areas in the province. Phrae has town (thesaban mueang) status. Further 25 subdistrict municipalities (thesaban tambon). The non-municipal areas are administered by 57 Subdistrict Administrative Organisations - SAO (ongkan borihan suan tambon).
