Nakhon Phanom province
 (Thaiนครพนมpronounced [ná(ʔ).kʰɔ̄ːn pʰā.nōm]lit.'Mountain City'Northeastern Thaiนครพนมpronounced [nà(ʔ).kʰɔ᷇ːn pʰā.no᷇m]) is one of Thailand's seventy-six provinces (changwat) lies in upper northeastern Thailandalso called Isan. Directly adjacent provinces are (from south clockwise): MukdahanSakon Nakhon, and Bueng Kan. To the northeast it borders Khammouan of Laos.


The province, in the Mekong Rivervalley, is mostly plains. The northern part of the province has a more upland, forest-covered character. The main river in the northern part is the Songkhram River with the smaller Oun River. The southern part is flatter with the Kum River as its only notable watercourse. The provincial capital, the city of Nakhon Phanom, is on the banks of the Mekong. The total forest area is 789 km2 (305 sq mi) or 14 percent of provincial area.[

There are two national parks, along with five other national parks, make up region 10 (Udon Thani) of Thailand's protected areas. (Visitors in fiscal year 2024)[5]

Phu Pha Yon National Park





Phu Pha Yon National Park (Thaiอุทยานแห่งชาติภูผายล) is a national park in northeastern Thailand (Isan). Formerly known as Huai Huad National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติห้วยหวด). The national park covers the area of Mueang Sakon NakhonKhok Si Suphan and Tao Ngoi districts of Sakon Nakhon provinceNa Kae district of Nakhon Phanom province and Dong LuangKhamcha-i districts of Mukdahan province.



Phu Laen Kha National Park


Phu Laen Kha National Park (Thaiอุทยานแห่งชาติภูแลนคา) is a national park in Thailand with a total area of 200.50 km2 (77.41 sq mi) in Amphoe Kaset SombunAmphoe Nong Bua DaengAmphoe Mueang Chaiyaphum and Amphoe Ban Khwao of Chaiyaphum Province in northeastern region. It is the 180th national park of Thailand. It is an area consists of complicated mountains and plateaus at an elevation of about 200–725 m (656–2,379 ft)
  • Mo Hin Khao (มอหินขาว) is an iconic rock formation on the sward, similar to Stonehenge of England. Therefore, it is known as "Thailand Stonehenge", regarded as both the symbol and the landmark that is best known for the national park. In addition, this place was also selected to be one of the 2009 TV commercial locations of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) under the campaign "12 Months 7 Stars 9 Suns" (12 เดือน 7 ดาว 9 ตะวัน) presented by Thongchai "Bird" McIntyre.[2]
  • Pha Hua Nak (ผาหัวนาค), cliff and viewpoint that are not far from Mo Hin Khao (about 4 km (2 mi)). Pha Hua Nak is about 905 m (2969 ft) above average sea level and can see the Mueang Chaiyaphum below, with cool temperatures throughout the day. On the opposite side of Pha Hua Nak is the Phang Heuy mountain range (เทือกเขาพังเหย). Its name refers to "Naga[mythical serpent]'s head cliff", according to its characteristics.[3]
  • Pha Kluai Mai (ผากล้วยไม้), another viewpoint cliff of the park.
  • Hin Prasart (หินปราสาท), a striking natural upright rock apart from Mo Hin Khao.
  • Pratu Khlong (ประตูโขลง), a strange stone that looks like a beautiful arch

Phu Lanka National Park


 Covers an area of 31,250 rai spread across the Ban Phaeng and Na Thom districts of Nakhon Phanom and Bueng Khong Long district of Bueng Kan. The main geographical feature of this national park is the three peaks of Northern, Central, and Southern Phu Langka lining up alongside the Mekong River from north to south, the highest of the three reaching 563 metres above sea level. The park is covered with dry evergreen, mixed deciduous and dry dipterocarp forests which form the habitat for an abundance of wildlife as well being the sources of numerous waterfalls and streams. Along the trail that leads to Phu Lanka’s summit, you will find eclectic wild flowers, cascading water and fresh air. The most suitable time to visit the park is in the rainy season, from May to October. Interesting sites in Phu Langka National Park include: Phrathat Phu Langka aka Kong Khao Si Boon Nao Chedi, which contains the Buddha’s relics brought from Nepal. The Phrathat, which resembles a pile of rice, is situated in the stone courtyard at the highest point of Phu Langka. There are varieties of plants growing there, and Phu Langka National Park Ban Phaeng, Nakhon Phanom the weather is cool all year round.


This site is a prime viewpoint to watch the sunrise, and visitors can gaze out over the verdant landscape as far as Laos. Tat Pho Waterfall has its source high up in the Phu Langka Mountain.There are four levels; the first being the only level that visitors are able to swim in. The second level is 30 metres above the first, while the third and the fourth levels are 1,600 metres and 1,800 metres from the national park office, respectively.Tat Kham Waterfall also has its source on Phu Langka Mountain. There are four levels. The lowest of these holds water in a pond where visitors can splash and paddle but should be cautious as it gets deep in spots. The site is well shaded with a small stone courtyard, so it is ideal for recreational activities with many food stalls at the entrance to treat your taste buds.You can reach the Nakee Cave by walking from the national park office and registering at the Tat Pho Waterfall entrance. The cave is 300 metres from the fourth level of Tat Pho Waterfall.



Thismia is a genus of myco-heterotrophic plants in family Burmanniaceae, known as "fairy lanterns".They are native to East and Southeast Asia, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, and the Americas.


The nature trail to the cave starts with a 1.5-kilometre concrete pathway alongside the stream, followed by a 300-metre trekking trail. The round trip takes around 1 to 2 hours, with rest spots with ropes and ladders provided in some steep or hazardous areas. Access to the Nakee Cave is prohibited during rainfall to prevent accidents. Visitors requiring a guide can contact the park office.Visitors who walk on another 0.5 kilometres, will discover ‘Pha Nakee’cliff, a viewpoint where the fascinating Mekong scenery is clearly visible. 
The Nakee Cave consists of a giant rock whose surface has been eroded into what look like serpent’s scales, just like the Naga Cave. There’s another large boulder nearby which strikingly resembles a snake’s head. Camping sites, restrooms, and a welfare shop are available. ถ้ำนาคี 
ตั้งอยู่ในอุทยานแห่งชาติภูลังกา เส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติน้ำตกตาดโพธิ์ ตำบลไผ่ล้อม อำเภอบ้านแพง จังหวัดนครพนม ค
นส่วนใหญ่จะรู้จักและคุ้นเคยกับถ้ำนาคาอันโด่งดังที่มีนักท่องเที่ยวเดินทางมาเยี่ยมชมบารมีปู่อือลืออย่างไม่ขาดสาย แต่จริงๆ แล้วอีกฝากฝั่งหนึ่งของอุทยานแห่งชาติภูลังกาแห่งนี้ยังมีอัญมณีเม็ดงามแห่งธรรมชาติที่เพิ่งถูกค้นพบเมื่อไม่นานมานี้ นับเป็น Unseen ที่สายมูต้องห้ามพลาดเช่นกัน เป็นดินแดนศักดิ์สิทธิ์ที่เต็มไปด้วยเรื่องราวอันลี้ลับและน่าค้นหามีความสวยงามไม่แพ้กัน มีตำนานความเชื่อ ความศรัทธาที่

เชื่อมโยงถ้ำนาคีและนาคาไว้ด้วยกัน นั้นคือเรื่องราวของพญานาคหรืองูยักษ์ที่ถูกสาปให้กลายเป็นหิน ด้วยรูปร่างลักษณะของหินที่คล้ายงูยักษ์กำลังขดตัวเลื้อยคดเคี้ยวไปตามรอบหุบเขา หินที่มีลวดลายคล้ายเกล็ดงูและยังมีอีกหลายจุดที่มีลักษณะคล้ายหัวงูยักษ์ ความสวยงามแบบลึกลับนี้จึงเป็นเสน่ห์มนต์ขลังที่ทำให้ปัจจุบันถ้ำนาคีกลายเป็นอีกแลนด์มารค์ของสายมูที่ได้รับความสนใจจากนักท่องเที่ยวซึ่งต่างก็ตั้งใจมาเยี่ยมชมทั้งถ้ำนาคีและถ้ำนาคา



การเดินเท้าเส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติของถ้ำนาคี มีระยะทางไป-กลับ ประมาณ 4 กิโลเมตร ใกล้ๆ กับที่ทำการอุทยาน จะเป็น น้ำตกตาดโพธิ์ (ชั้นที่1) ทางเดินช่วงแรกเป็นทางลาดยางที่ทำจากขยะพลาสติกที่มาจากทั่วประเทศ บรรยากาศร่มรื่นปกคลุมไปด้วยต้นไผ่ที่โน้มเข้าหากันเป็นร่มเงา ระหว่างทางมีจุดแวะพักเป็นระยะพร้อมป้ายให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับพืชพรรณ แมลง สัตว์ป่า สมุนไพร ที่พบในอุทยานแห่งชาติภูลังกา ซึ่งที่นี่มักจะพบพืชชนิดใหม่ของโลกและมีเฉพาะท้องถิ่นเป็นเอกลักษณ์รวมทั้งสมุนไพรหายาก 




ถ้ำนาคี มีลักษณะเป็นเพิงหินขนาดใหญ่และมีลวดลายของเกล็ดพญานาคบนพื้นผิวของหิน (คล้ายถ้ำนาคา) มีก้อนหินใหญ่ลักษณะเหมือนหินหัวงูอยู่ไม่ไกลกัน อีกทั้งหากเดินทางต่อไปอีกราวครึ่งกิโลเมตรก็จะมีจุดชมวิว “ผานาคี” เป็นจุดชมวิวแม่น้ำโขงที่งดงามอีกด้วย




สำหรับ ถ้ำนาคี ไข่พญานาค เศียรพยานาค เป็นจุดท่องเที่ยวที่อยู่ในเส้นทางเดินศึกษาธรรมชาติสายใหม่ ภูลังกาเหนือ หรือ เส้นทางสายธรรม-สายพญานาค (ระยะทางประมาณ 12 กม.) ในเส้นทางจะมีจุดน่าสนใจต่าง ๆ ให้เที่ยวชม ได้แก่ น้ำตกตาดโพธิ์-ถ้ำนาคี-วังนาคี-ผานาคี-หินสาลึคึ-ลานธรรม (หัวภู)-หินพญาศรีสัตตนาคราช-ไข่พญานาค-หินโลมา (วาฬ) -เจดีย์กองข้าวศรีบุญเนาว์ และเศียรพญานาค (องค์ที่ 9) ที่เพิ่งค้นพบใหม่ล่าสุด



Gesneriaceae
Nakhon Phanom Province is a biodiversity hotspot for the Gesneriaceae family in Thailand, particularly within the sandstone habitats of the Phu Langka National Park
The primary Gesneriaceae taxa native to or discovered in Nakhon Phanom include:
  • Chayamaritia smitinandii: A deep-shade, rock-dwelling herb found in evergreen and submontane forests.
  • Microchirita: Multiple species thrive in the province's moist, shaded environments, including Microchirita orothaiae and Microchirita puglisiae.
  • Microchirita tadphoensis: Found growing on sandstone rocks near waterfalls.
  • Paraboea esanensis: A rhizomatous perennial herb recently identified as endemic to the northeastern region.
  • Microchirita albocyanea: A small, distinct herb growing on rocks in deep shade
  • Henckelia anachoreta (Hance) D.J.Middleton & Mich. Moller
